Wellington Speech & Debate took names and chewed bubble gum at the October 14 PBCFL, bringing home a ton of hardware from the Olympic Heights campus.
In Congressional Debate, Wellington took four of the top six places in Chamber 10, with Aiden Alexis taking first overall, Elisa Syla second, Ava Redfield third, and Richard Tanton sixth. In addition, in Chamber 7, Patrick McDermott placed fifth and Alexa Acosta sixth.
In Extemporaneous Speaking, Paula Currea placed third, while Ahna Guillaume took third in Program Oral Interpretation. Hannah Pahl placed fourth in Oral Interpretation.
The Red Dawn Debaters earned eight new National Speech & Debate Association degrees. Aidan Alexis, Michael Diaz, and Abby Kitlas each surpassed the 75-point plateau and earned the Degree of Honor. They will also receive their varsity debate letters at the spring banquet, and have earned the right to don the scarlet and grey NSDA honor cords at their high school graduation ceremony. Natalia Figueroa, Romessa Patel, Ava Redfield, Elisa Syla, and Richard Tanton each earned their NSDA Honor Society lifetime membership.
