Numerous Wellington Speech & Debate students earned accolades at the first FCDI VIrtual Tournament of the 2023-24 season.
The FCDI awarded one place for approximately every 5 entries in a division/event.
In Novice Oral Interpretation, Mia Carreira placed first overall, while Angelina Greco placed second in Varsity Oral Interpretation.
Chiara MIlazzi finished second in Varsity Informative Speaking.
In Novice Just Talk, Ava Redfield placed second.
Wellington took three of the top five spots in the Novice Congressional Debate Authorship Challenge. Natalia Figuerao finished second, Anthony Campione fourth, and Cristian Goncalves fifth.
Wellington earned 11 new National Speech & Debate Association degrees and members this weekend. Ava Cassel earned her Degree of Distinction (250+ NSDA Honor Points), while both Colin Capon and Angelina Greco earned the Degree of Excellence (150+ points). Two students, Ariel Ambo and Jonathan Paul, each earned the Degree of Honor (75+ points), which means they will receive their varsity debate letters at the spring banquet and are eligible to wear debate honor cords at their graduation ceremony. And five students each earned NSDA membership and the Degree of Merit (25+ points) – Beckett Brent, Anthony Campione, Mis Carreira, William Irwin, and Isabella Mariani.
